Propecia Dosage
Follow the directions for using Propecia provided by your doctor and pharmacist. A single 1 mg pill of Propecia is taken once a day, with or without meals. Never take 2 doses at one time.
In Propecia clinical studies, single doses of finasteride up to 400 mg and multiple doses of finasteride up to 80 mg/day for three months did not result in adverse reactions. Until further experience is obtained, no specific treatment for an overdose with finasteride can be recommended.
Propecia Side Effects
Although, not conclusive, the side effects that may occur while taking Propecia relate to a change in sexual function. If it persists or is bothersome, check with your doctor. The most common of these Propecia side effects are a decreased sex drive, difficulty in achieving an erection and a reduction in the amount of semen. These Propecia side effects only occurred in 2% of men using Propecia. These side effects are reversible by discontinuing use of Propecia.
Contact your doctor immediately should you experience any of the following Propecia side effects:
- skin rash
- swelling of lips
Do not hesitate to seek medical advice should you develop other Propecia side effects not listed here, or adverse reactions that you believe to be related to your Propecia therapy.
Propecia Precautions and Contraindications
Do not stop taking Propecia without checking with your doctor. Stopping Propecia usage will result in a return within 12 months to the same amount of baldness as when started. Maintain all medical appointments while taking Propecia. Check with your physician before you start taking new medication such as Propecia, either over the counter or prescription. For a woman,during pregnancy, handling Propecia is not recommended, especially if it is broken or crushed.
Propecia Warnings
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant and your skin has contact, as soon as possible.
Why are Propecia Tablets Coated?
Propecia is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss in men only. Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use Propecia. They should also not handle crushed or broken tablets of Propecia. If the active ingredient in Propecia is absorbed after oral use or through the skin by a woman who is pregnant with a male baby, it may cause the male baby to be born with abnormalities of the sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the active ingredient in Propecia, a physician should be consulted. Propecia tablets are coated and will prevent contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the tablets are not broken or crushed.
Storing Propecia
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
